Air France-KLM Flying Blue Promo Awards (50% Discount) Are Out For May – June 2013

Air France and KLM’s Flying Blue program releases a list of promotional destinations every couple of months that are redeemable for half the usual number of miles. They just announced the latest list of destinations that are bookable from April 29 (earlier for Flying Blue elites) for travel between May 1 and June 30, 2013, that you can access here.

Thing to note is that you can book these also as one-way.  These are not only for originating from Europe as all the destinations are valid for both directions.  Awards allow the origin/destination in Europe to be in zones 1, 2, and 3, basically meaning that these awards are valid from/to anywhere in Europe.

Marriott Rewards’ Newest Partner Iberia Avios

Marriott Rewards just announced their latest airline partner Iberia. You can now earn Iberia Avios for your Marriott stays, although this makes very little sense.

Iberia is part of IAG (International Airlines Group), as is British Airways. You have been able to earn BA Avios for your Marriott stays for a long time. You can freely transfer Avios between Avios, BA Avios and Iberia Avios, so there has been a way to earn Iberia Avios for your stays for a long time.

IHG has changed the terms and conditions of this program quite a few times since its inception. Here are the major problems:

Most Rewarding Hotel Loyalty Program

The other month, I gave a promise that I would try to tackle the issue about the most rewarding hotel rewards program this spring. I haven’t forgotten it. I have been contemplating the best way to incorporate the number if variables to the review to get objective results. Today I will have the first hotel program evaluated: Club Carlson.

In the next three weeks, I will tackle two programs per week; Club Carlson and Hilton HHonors this week, Hyatt Gold Passport and InterContinental Hotels Group next week, and Marriott and Starwood Preferred Guest the week after that.

Airline Quality Rating (US Airlines) Is Out For 2013

The Airline Quality Rating (AQR) based on the 2012 data is out for 23rd time. This report uses publicly available information that airlines are required to report to Department of Transportation and then applies formula (some magic) to come up with the ratings. You can access AQR’s website here.

The findings are nothing new to those of us that have had a look at the DOT’s monthly Air Travel Consumer reports. The Virgin America was on the first spot and the United was dead last. United had a disastrous year in 2012 complaints and operation wise.
