Hyatt Regency Orlando Convention Center (1641 Rooms!) Opens October 1 (Former Peabody Orlando)

Peabody Orlando is expected to become Hyatt Orlando Convention Center on October 1, 2013. Hyatt owned entity is buying this 1,641 room hotel for $717 million from UST Hotel Joint Venture.

The hotel originally opened in 1986 and recently went through a $440 million renovation and expansion program.

Wow! This has to be by far the largest Hyatt hotel considering the number of rooms they have. As the hotel was recently renovated and expanded, Hyatt is not expected to use any significant amount of capital beyond the reflagging expenses.

Hyatt has finally launched a new promo after taking quite a few months off. Here are my top five for this month.

Marriott Rewards has a Rewarding Events program for meeting and event planners. They get points for arranging meetings and events at Marriott properties. All hotel chains have similar programs and I have been planning to write about them.

Now, Marriott has made some changes to the terms and conditions of the program that mainly affect Meeting Planners that work with government paid and funded events.

Starwood Loses Sheraton Karachi – Becomes Mövenpick

LoyaltyLobby reader sent me a link to a newspaper article about reflagging of Sheraton Karachi to Mövenpick hotel. You can access the entire article that appeared on the Express Tribune here.

I wouldn’t usually write reflagging of a Sheraton hotel, but there are few quite interesting tidbits in this instance.
