US Airways Dividend Miles Up To 100% Hotel & Car Rental Bonus

US Airways is offering up to 100% bonus on hotel and car partner activities between November 12 and December 31, 2012. You need to register for this promotion.

The bonus percentage is dependent of the number of partner activities you have and credit to US Airways during the promotions period:

1 – 2 hotel stays/car rentals = 25% bonus miles

3 – 4 hotel stays/car rentals = 50% bonus miles

5 – 6 hotel stays/car rentals = 75% bonus miles

7 – 10 hotel stays/car rentals = 100% bonus miles

Please note that points to miles conversions are not eligible for this offer i.e. converting Starpoints to miles. Also, the bonus only applies to maximum to the first ten transactions during this period that post to your Dividend Miles account.

Avis is offering 3000 bonus Dividend miles for rentals of 3 days or longer until February, 2013. If you happen to do car rentals before the end of the year and threw in couple of hotel stays, you should be able to get the maximum bonus.  You can access the Avis offer here.

This is a nice, although very time sensitive, offer from US Airway. It is especially good if you can do some Avis rentals and get at least 7 transactions for the 100% bonus.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

Eligibility: Offer void where prohibited by law. Registration is required. Only cumulative transactions on qualified transactions with participating Dividend Miles hotel and car rental partners between November 12 and December 31, 2012 are eligible (‘Eligible Activity Date’).

General terms: All Dividend Miles terms and conditions apply. US Airways is not responsible for the quality or delivery of goods and/or services provided by Dividend Miles partners. All Dividend Miles partner terms and conditions apply. Participating partners and partner offers are subject to change without notice.

Earning bonus miles: Bonus miles are in addition to miles awarded by Dividend Miles partners. Registered Dividend Miles members will earn a cumulative transaction bonus based on the following criteria: 1 – 2 transactions = 25% bonus; 3 – 4 transactions = 50% bonus; 5 – 6 transactions = 75% bonus; 7 – 10 transactions = 100% bonus. A valid Dividend Miles number must be provided to the qualifying partner. Use of a partner without earning Dividend Miles will not count towards a cumulative transaction bonus. Only qualified transactions that earn Dividend Miles with participating partners will count toward a cumulative transaction bonus. US Airways will track the cumulative transactions during the promotion period and will award the appropriate bonus miles based on the total qualified cumulative transactions during the promotion period. Only the miles from the first 10 eligible transactions (based on activity date)may be earned for this promotion during the specified period. Please note that hotel points to miles conversion transactions are not eligible for this promotion. Bonus miles for this promotion will post on March 1, 2013.

Eligible Activity Date: Only miles earned between November 12 and December 31, 2012 are eligible (‘Eligible Activity Date’). Eligible Activity Date is based on the date the qualifying partner records the mileage transaction, and not necessarily the date on which the transaction occurred. US Airways assumes no responsibility for how qualifying partners record Eligible Activity Dates. Most qualifying partners record Eligible Activity Dates based on completion of the required activity (for example, delivery of the item purchased, return of car rental, hotel check-out, cruise completion, etc.). You should check with the applicable qualifying partner to confirm its policies and procedures for recording Eligible Activity Dates. The last date that activity from a qualifying partner can be received by US Airways for bonus miles consideration is February 28, 2013, regardless of the Eligible Activity Date for such activity.

SPG Step Into Paradise Rate Promotion: 50% Off (Maybe) for Stays in Indonesia, Malaysia & Singapore

Starwood has just launched a new promotion for stays in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. You may find some rates to be discounted by 50%. This offer is valid for stays until February 28, 2013, that are booked by December 20th. The rate code that this promotions uses is DALY50.

Note that this rate code discounts UP TO 50%. The discount in most cases is much less.

What I always do, when a hotel runs a rate promotion, is to check whether you can actually save money or not. When you are searching for rates, make sure that you click all the other pricing options as well. If you don’t, you will only see the DALY50-rates that are not always the cheapest.

Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur

The DALY50 or Red Hot Deal rate is bit less than the rate that is discounted by 25%.

Le Meridien Jakarta

You can also save few bucks here by booking this rate.

W Singapore

Here this rate code makes absolutely no sense at all. The flexible rate is 430 SGD and this “discounted” rate is 640 SGD. The lowest discounted rate is 388 SGD.

Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu

Here the DALY50 is higher than rate that is discounted by 10% and includes a breakfast?

Always make sure that you compare all the prices and not just the promotional ones. You should also have a look at all the other discount options that Starwood offers including Starpicks.

The four examples above were randomly chosen. I would imagine that this rate would be the lowest sometimes but never really by 50%.

It would be interesting to find out what is this imaginary rate that W Singapore discounts by 50% that is more than 50% higher than the best flexible rate?

5000 Premier Qualifying Miles for Purchasing US Airways Club Membership

US Airways just launched an offer for 5000 Premier Qualifying Miles (PQM’s) and waiving the initiation fee for joining or renewing the US Airways Club membership. This offer is valid from November 12 to November 18, 2012.

You need to use promotional code 5KPQM when singing up online or at the Club location. The price depends of the Preferred status that you have with US Airways. The email that I received references a price of $400, but there doesn’t seem to be such an option.

If you are close to making Gold, Platinum, or Chairman’s status and buying the Club membership would make it happen, I would certainly do it.

You could consider this as Buy up to preferred-program at 5K level that would have the lounge access thrown in for free.

The US Airways Club membership also gives you an access to all United and Star Alliance lounge when flying on a Star Alliance carrier. Note that Gold, Platinum, and Chairman’s members do have Star Alliance lounge access on international itineraries based on the Star Alliance Gold status.

TIP: If you have a favorite US Airways Club location, try to do the renewal or sign up there. Most of the airline clubs have a goal for membership sign ups and it might help them.

Delta just launched a similar offer for their Sky Club membership, although for only 1500 Delta MQM’s.  This US Airways offer is quite nice. If you fly a lot on any US airlines, it is essential to have a lounge access for (sometimes) quiet space and irregular operations handling (special agents at clubs).

Here are the Terms and conditions of this offer:

Terms & conditions apply. Offer valid November 12 – November 18, 2012. Offer available for new US Airways Club annual memberships and US Airways Club memberships that are eligible for renewal. Promotion code 5KPQM must be mentioned or entered when enrolling or renewing the membership in the US Airways Club to receive the bonus miles and price discount. New club members and club members renewing that use promotion code 5KPQM will receive 5,000 bonus Preferred-qualifying miles. For new club member enrollments, the $50 initiation fee will be waived. This offer cannot be combined with any other offer. If buying online, please allow up to 7 days for processing. All US Airways Club and Dividend Miles terms and conditions apply.

PointsHound 100 Free Miles Update: Seems to Be Posting Just Fine

On October 29, I wrote about a new hotel booking engine PointsHound that awards frequent flier miles for bookings. For getting new members to sign up, the site was (and still is) offering 100 free Delta, United, Hawaiian, or AeroMexico miles to sign up for their service (no purchase required).

I did the sign up on that date and the 100 free miles posted to my United account on September 4.

If you haven’t signed up for the service yet and would like to receive the free miles, it would probably be the right time.

This is an excellent way to extend the validity of the miles that is trickered by any account activity. Also, you never know when even a small amount like 100 miles can come handy.

Very easy way to collect 100 miles and doesn’t even require purchase. Just for registering to their website is enough. You may want to have a look at their hotel booking engine at the same time as well.

Up to 6000 Bonus Alitalia Miles for Four Hilton Stays

Hilton has a bonus offer for Alitalia MileMiglia members for up to 6000 bonus miles for stays between October 1 and January 31, 2013. You need to register for this promotion before your stay and have Alitalia as your preferred Double Dip airline partner. You can read more about Double Dipping with Hilton HHonors here.

Although this offer has been valid from October 1, I would have these stays only after January 1st, 2013. Stays this year will credit towards MileMiglia’s 2008 to 2012 program. Stays in 2013 will credit towards MileMiglia’s 2013 program.

I know that this is very confusing because Alitalia hasn’t come entirely clear what is happening with the miles that have been earned in the 2008 to 2012 program.

Here’s the bonus that you would earn:

1st stay – 1000 bonus miles

2nd stay – 1000 bonus miles

3rd stay – 2000 bonus miles

4th stay – 2000 bonus miles

These bonus miles are in addition to the base miles that you would earn from your Hilton stays.

Points & Fixed Miles or Points & Variable Miles?

Whether you should choose fixed or variable miles, is dependent of the folio amount of your stay and the Hilton family of hotel brand.

At full service properties, you should choose variable miles if your eligible folio amount is more than $600. You earn 1 miles per dollar pent under the variable mile offer.

For stay at the Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites brands, the variable miles are better options when your eligible folio exceeds $120 as the fixed miles are capped at 120.

Home2 Suites location only earns you maximum of 100 variable miles. You cannot earn fixed miles at this brand at all.

The situation is unclear with Alitalia’s MileMiglia and thus I would not credit anything to the 2008 to 2012 edition of the program.  If you do, you do it at own your risk.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

*The date on which the miles awarded by this promotion are credited to the MilleMiglia Member’s account will depend entirely on the transaction date transmitted by the Partner to Alitalia.

The miles credited on a date prior to 1 January 2013 will be considered valid for the 2008-2012 edition of the MilleMiglia Program and consequently will have to be used for requesting awards within 30 June 2013, while those credited from 1 January 2013 onwards will be valid for the 2013 edition of the MilleMiglia Program.

Miles accrued in the new edition of the Program may not be cumulated with those of the 2008-2012 edition for the purpose of claiming awards.

1. To participate in the offer, you must be a Hilton HHonors™ member and first register at Membership is free. You must have Alitalia selected in your HHonors profile as your preferred airline, prior to completing your Hilton Worldwide stay. In order to earn bonus miles, HHonors members must select from two Double Dip® Earnings Style options: HHonors Points and Variable Miles or HHonors Points and Fixed Miles Points and miles cannot be retrospectively applied.

2. HHonors members choosing HHonors Points and Fixed Miles award will earn 10 HHonors Base Points per eligible U.S. dollar spent plus either 600 or 120 Miles (as applicable) per stay. Please visit Members will also be awarded the following Bonus HHonors Points and Alitalia Miles:

1,000 HHonors Bonus Points on registration. Only customers that are not HHonors members and who subsequently enroll in the program will receive an additional 1000 Hilton HHonors bonus points upon registration via this promotion only.

• 1st stay: 1,000 bonus miles
• 2nd stay: 1,000 bonus miles
• 3rd stay: 2,000 bonus miles
• 4th stay: 2,000 bonus miles
• 5th stay +: – members will then be awarded the standard stay miles only on their 5th and any subsequent stays.

3. Up to a maximum of 6,000 Alitalia Bonus Miles can be claimed during this promotional period of 2nd October and 31st January 2013.
4. Alitalia Miles accrued and awards issued are subject to Mille Miglia Terms and Conditions
5. Offer is subject to availability at participating Hilton Worldwide Hotels & Resorts for stays completed between 2nd October – 31st January 2013.
6. Hilton HHonors™ membership, earning of Points & Miles™, and redemption of Points are subject to HHonors Terms and Conditions

Hilton Little League 15% off Discount Code for Worldwide Use

Hilton has teamed up with Little League to offer 15% off of Hilton rates worldwide. Little League is Baseball/Softball association in the United States for minors. I have written previously about MVP and Corporate Benefits Employee Offer rate discounts. You may want to check them out as well. You can access the Hilton’s Little League web pages here.

The best thing about this discount is that it is available for FANS as well. Who wouldn’t be a fan of Little League if you can save 15% of your Hilton stays?

The best part is that Hilton pays some sort of commission to Little League for bookings make using this offer. So, you save maybe 15% and Little League gets a commission from Hilton. What could be better? You can book this rate using Hilton’s Direct Connect interface that is intended for corporate bookings. You can access the interface here.

If you use Direct Connect interface for bookings, it will only display the BEST AVAILABLE RATE and the LITTLE LEAGUE rate. For hotels in the United States, you need to use the Direct Connect interface, but do remember to check the rates using the regular as well. There are some discounted rates that are lower than the 15%.

Hilton Garden Inn French Quarter

Here’s an example from New Orleans. The Hilton Garden Inn French Quarter has a prepaid rate of $99 that doesn’t show up on Direct Connect.

The Little League rate of $101 is not shown on searches executed on, although I have included the Little League rate code.

For international properties, I would just use the regular Just remember to include the Little League Promotion Code PGLL01. Then it will include all the rates including award ones.

Here’s comparison between rate displays for Hilton Ras Al Khaimah

Direct Connect interface only returns the BAR and Little League rates.

The regular search includes number of rates.

DoubleTree Istanbul

The Little League rate is discounted by 15%.

Hilton Cape Town

The rate is again lowered by 15% by using the Little League rate code PGLL01.

Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Residences

The Dubai Hilton Residences property was discounted by the same 15%.

Benefits of the Little League rate code

Most of the other publicly available discount rate codes are advance purchase, prepaid, and non-refundable. This Little League rate code appears to allow same day cancellations up to 4PM at some hotels while others seem to require cancellation one day prior. The rate doesn’t require prepayment.

The Corporate Benefit Employee Offer that usually has around 30% discount off of the BAR it is not as widely accepted as this Little League 15% one.

It is worthwhile to check this rate plan if you are going to stay at the Hilton locations worldwide. Remember to use the Direct Connect interface for stays within the United States (not sure if this apply for Canada as well). For international properties, I prefer just using the with the Little League promotion code PGLL01. The not only returns the BAR and Little League rates, but all others at the same time.

Up to 2000 Avios at Fairmont, Raffles & Swissotel Hotels

British Airways just sent out an email about the new partnership with Fairmont, Raffles & Swissotel that had already started on October 1. This offer is valid for stays until December 31, 2012. There is no need to register for this offer, but you can find more information about this offer here.

To celebrate the launch of the new partnership, these hotels are offering 500 bonus Avios  for each of the first three nights in top of the usual 500 Avios per stay.  You can earn maximum of 2000 Avios per stay. Fairmont President Club Premier members will receive an additional 250 Avios and Platinum members an additional 500 Avios per stay.

Note that not all the rates are eligible for airline miles accrual:

To receive airline miles, reservations must be booked on qualifying rates: Corporate, Package and Sell Rate of the Day rates and excludes some discounted packages.

It is always nice to see Fairmont, Raffles, and Swissotel to have more airline partners. Just be prepared to follow up in a case that the miles don’t automatically show up on your British Airways Executive Club Account.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

  • Maximum of 2500 Avios per stay can be earned
  • The name of the reservation has to be identical with the name on the British Airways Executive Club membership number
  • Membership card has to be presented upon check-in
  • The offer cannot be combined with any other offer

United Upgrade Instruments RPU’s & GPU’s to Be Valid Longer

United made an official announcement on Friday by posting on FlyerTalk that both Regional Premier Upgrades (RPU) and Global Premier Upgrades (GPU’s) would be valid longer.

United RPU GPU Update
United RPU GPU Update

RPU’s and GPU’s used to expire 12 months after they were earned. This change will make them valid until the end of the next premier year from when they were earned.  Upgrades earned in 2012 would expire on January, 2014, and so on.

Under the old United, the system the system wide upgrades (SWU’s) were issued and valid for 12 months from the beginning of the new membership year. If you made 1K in 2008, the system wide upgrades were issued at the beginning of 2009. You could always get an extension for expiry for couple of SWU’s by contacting Mileage Plus.

This is a welcomed development from United, although using these instruments to upgrade doesn’t guarantee the upgrade unless there is upgrade space available at the time of applying the upgrade. Unlike with American where eVips are valid at all fares, you need to buy a higher base fare in order to be part of the upgrade lottery internationally.

Iberia’s Layoffs & IAG’s Attempt to Buy Vueling

It has been a busy week with IAG, the parent of British Airways and Iberia, that made an offer to buy the rest of the Vueling, a Barcelona based discount carrier, that it doesn’t already own and an announcement of layoffs of around 4500 at its Iberia unit.

IAG made a bid to buy rest of the Vueling that it doesn’t already own on November 8. Currently IAG owns about 46 of the airline. Unlike IAG’s Iberia, Vueling is a profitable airline and has considerable amount of cash on its balance sheet (407 million euros).

Then on Friday, the IAG announced that it would need to fire 4500 employees of the Iberia unit that is currently not profitable. The airline has tried to move more of Iberia’s flying to its low cost Iberia Express unit. That has resulted the mainline to have too many employees working for it. The overall economic problems of Spain has resulted in fewer flights than previously required.

Many of the European airlines are trying to outsource their unprofitable European flying that is required to support the network. Lufthansa recently announced to move all of the flying that doesn’t touch its Munich and Frankfurt hubs to Germanwings.

Finnair has already moved all of its Embraer fleet to be flown by UK based Flybe under their Flybe Finland subsidiary, although under Finnair flight numbers and service concept.

It is interesting to see if IAG’s bid for Vueling is successful and whether they would incorporate the airline under the Iberia Express brand.

The problems with Iberia that requires fewer headcount has been widely known due to fewer flights having been flown under the mainline Iberia-brand. Reducing headcount is not easy in Spain and especially now that the country is going through rather tough times.

Triple Jet Airways & Kingfisher Miles for Hilton Stays Worldwide

Hilton has a triple miles offer for Jet Airways and Kingfisher. I am not sure why they have even bothered to include Kingfisher as the airline has suspended all the operations indefinitely.

You can earn triple Jet Airways JetPrivilege miles at Hilton properties worldwide between October 1 and November 30, 2012. You need to register for this promotion and have Jet Airways chosen as your preferred Double Dip partner. You can read more about Hilton’s Double Dip options here.

You need to choose between Points & Variable Miles and Points & Fixed Miles. Which one of these two options you should choose is dependent of the hotel brand and the eligible folio amount.

If your hotel folio amount is less than $500, you should choose the fixed miles (500) instead of the variable miles (1 mile per eligible dollar. If your stay is at Hampton Inn or Homewood Suites locations, the variable miles offer is better, when your folios is more than $100. The fixed number of miles earned at these two brands is capped at 100. At Home2 Suites locations you should always choose fixed miles as both the fixed and the variable options are capped at 100 miles.

You should not even consider crediting to Kingfisher King Club as the airline has been now grounded for more than a month. I think that it is highly unlikely that Kingfisher will ever take it off again. You can access this offer on Hilton’s website.

Don’t even consider the Kingfisher offer. Triple JetPrivilege miles for Hilton stays is a decent offer.

Here are the terms and conditions of the triple miles offer for Jet Airways:

Offer valid for eligible stays completed between October 1 and November 30, 2012 (“Promotion Period”) at any participating hotel in the Hilton Worldwide portfolio. Hilton HHonors™ members must first register at prior to check-out of your stay within the Promotion Period. Registered HHonors members will only receive bonus miles for nights completed during the Promotion Period, regardless of a check-in date before the Promotion Period begins or a check-out date after the Promotion Period ends. To be eligible for this offer, you must (1) be both a member of Hilton HHonors™ and Jet Privilege; (2) select Jet Airways as your Double Dip earnings partner in your HHonors Profile, and (4) you must be a HHonors member to earn Points & Miles for hotel stays. Ensure that you select Points and Variable Miles or Points and Fixed Miles as your Double Dip™ Earning Style within your HHonors profile. A preferred airline must be selected in your HHonors profile.

Please allow six to eight weeks from completion of your stay for miles to appear in your Jet Privilege account. Offer is not transferable, is not valid for groups and cannot be combined with other select offers. Hilton HHonors™ membership, earning of Points & Miles™ and redemption of Points are subject to HHonors Terms and Conditions.

Le Club Accorhotels (Accor A Club) Platinum Status for Signing Up (Just Click the Sign Up Link)

I have had the Platinum status by request available for the past few months and it still is. Now, someone has posted a link on a public website for instant Platinum status. These public links tend to die within a day or two.

You can sign up for the instant Le Club Accorhotels Platinum status using this link. Please note that you need to sign up using an email address that has not been previously associated with Le Club Accorhotels or A Club.

I signed up for the Platinum status last year and have had few Accor stays. The Mercure hotel in Nadi was not great, but the Novotel hotel in Lami Bay was actually nice. During my stay at the Hotel Muse, an MGallery collection hotel, in Bangkok I even received a Platinum gift that was a shirt. The Pullman hotel in Bali is good one too.

Once this public link is dead, you can always do the request for the link that I have outlined here.
