Delta SkyMiles Partner Shuffle: Aerolineas Argentinas and Saudia IN & Kingfisher and Jet Airways OUT

The latest member of SkyTeam Saudia should be a SkyMiles partner at the moment, but is entirely missing on The future member of SkyTeam Aerolineas Argentinas, however, is a SkyMiles partner already. The two Indian airlines that are SkyMiles partners; Kingfisher and Jet Airways are both going away as partners on this coming October.

Saudia joined the SkyTeam on May 29th, 2012. Delta SkyMiles SkyTeam wide status benefits, when it comes to priority check in and lounge access, should now apply for flights taken on Saudia. Also, earning and burning of SkyMiles should be possible, but Delta’s website doesn’t have any mentions of Saudia on its partner page.

Saudia has a very good coverage in the Middle East and on the Indian Subcontinent. There are quite a few restrictions on transfers and whether you need a visa or not. This makes Saudia more complicated partner for transfer purposes. Always check Timatic first.

Aerolineas Argentinas

Aerolineas Argentinas became Delta’s partner for earning and redeeming SkyMiles in May. Aerolineas Argentinas is also set to join the SkyTeam alliance later in the year, when all the benefits associated with the SkyTeam status would apply for Aerolineas Argentinas flights.

There is a list of eligible fare classes for mileage accrual on AR that is divided between Domestic, Regional, and International. Lower fare classes earn very little on domestic and regional flights, but you might have better luck on international flights.

Aerolineas Argentinas was renationalized back in 2008 and is till bleeding money. According to an Associated Press article the airline received $200 million in subsidies in the first quarter of 2012 alone.

The airline flies to Miami and Mexico City in the North America, and Madrid, Barcelona, and Rome in Europe. This will help with using SkyMiles for travel to/from South America. The only drawback is that you need to call to make an award reservation if it involves AR.

Kingfisher & Jet Airways

Delta is terminating its partnership with Kingfisher on October 1st and with Jet Airways on October 15th. Normally you can make redemptions until the partnership ends as far in the future as the schedule is open.

It is really not a surprise that Delta is ending the partnership with the Kingfisher. The airline has been in huge financial turmoil this year and has ceased all the international operations. They had few planes repoed at airports. Not nice. Right now they only operate in domestically in India using less than 20 airplanes.

It is sad, however, to see that the partnership with Jet Airways is ending. It is one of the better Indian airlines and, although it is going through some financial difficulties, they are nowhere as bad as Kingfisher’s.

SkyTeam’s Newest Member Airline Saudia of Saudi Arabia

Saudia joined SkyTeam on May 29th, 2012 on a ceremony held in Jeddah. The airline is now a 16th member of the alliance that was founded on 2000.

Saudia has an extensive route network within the Saudi Arabia and the Middle East and Gulf Coast Countries. The airline serves both the Washington DC and New York in North America and number of destinations in Europe.

The airline is “dry” as there are no adult beverages served on Saudia flights. It is always good to have more airlines joining one of the three alliances to have more options to earn and burn miles, and to take advantage of the elite benefits that alliance wide status recognition brings.

American Airlines ShAAremiles Offer For Up To 20% Bonus Miles

American Airlines has long offered the ability to transfer miles between AAdvantage accounts. This is NOT cheap as American charges 1 cent per transferred mile + then there is a processing fee of $30 per transaction and some taxes as well.

Now, American Airlines has a bonus offer to give some extra miles depending how much you transfer, but still doesn’t make any sense unless you need a small number of miles for an expensive business or first class award.

Let’s have a look if I transfer the maximum number of allowed miles (25K) between my family members. They would deduct 25K miles from my account, the taxes and fees would be $298.75, and my family member would receive the 25K miles + 5K bonus miles from American Airlines.

If I had done this, I would have paid American close to 6 cents per mile. This is horrible value. Only even consider this option, if you desperately need a small amount of miles for that international premium class award.

Here are the Terms and conditions of this offer:

shareAAmiles® Terms and Conditions: Transactions are nonreversible and nonrefundable. Please allow 3 business days for transferred AAdvantage® miles to post to the designated AAdvantage account. Members must transfer 1,000-25,000 miles in a single transaction through the shareAAmiles® program beginning 12:00 am CDT June 1, 2012, until 11:59 pm CDT June 30, 2012, to be eligible for the bonus miles. Members who transfer between 1,000 and 5,000 miles will earn 10% bonus miles. Members who transfer between 6,000 and 10,000 will earn 15% bonus miles. Members who transfer between 11,000 and 25,000 will earn 20% bonus miles. Please allow 5 business days for the bonus miles to post to the account of the member who transfers the miles. Members may transfer up to 100,000 AAdvantage miles (in increments of 1,000-25,000 AAdvantage miles) and receive up to 100,000 miles (in increments of 1,000-25,000 AAdvantage miles) per AAdvantage account, per calendar year. AAdvantage bonus miles earned do not count toward the 100,000 shareAAmiles annual limit. AAdvantage miles transferred do not count toward elite-status qualification or Million MilerSM status.

Marriott’s Customer Service Email Turnaround Time for Taste of Platinum & Promotion Sign up Requests

Last year, I fell short on my Marriott stays to qualify for a Platinum status. Starwood had their excellent summer promotion and, as a result, I spent most of my summer and fall months at their properties. Marriott offered the Buy Back Elite status, but I decided not to take part of that offer.

Marriott’s summer 2012 promotion just started on June 1st. There are quite a few different options from free night certificates to bonus points. Not sure why, but I wasn’t targeted to ANY of the promotions. My preference would have been the three free night certificates after six stays. I wrote a piece about changing the targeted Marriott promotions by contacting them by phone, email, or via FlyerTalk.

On June 4th I sent a very brief email to Marriott to sign me up for the Taste of Platinum-challenge and for the free night certificate version of the summer promotion.

It took Marriott less than 48 hours to get back to me, and sign me up for the Taste of Platinum and for the summer Marriott promotion that I preferred. As a result, I will have a night at a Marriott property here in Bangkok later tonight.

American Airlines Offering “Fast Track” on Executive Platinum Requalification for Matched United 1K’s and Global Services Members

Back in April I wrote about the American Airlines’ offer for disgruntled United Airlines Mileage Plus members. AA was going to match the UA status for the same level i.e. United Global Services to AA Concierge Key. Airlines don’t normally match to their highest level so this offer was unheard of.

I also took up on the offer as I had been “downgraded” from Executive Platinum status to my lifetime Platinum one. It took American Airlines about three weeks to process the match.

Considering that most of the United frequent fliers were matched when close to five months of the year was already gone, it was smart move from AA’s part to make the offer below to those that were matched.

Essentially AA is prorating the requirement for Executive Platinum status to take into account the number of months that are left. Instead of requiring 100K elite qualifying miles or points, the requirement for those that were matched is now 55K by the end of the year.

Here’s the small print of this offer:

(1) Elite-qualifying activity includes eligible travel on American Airlines, American Eagle, the AmericanConnection® carrier, alloneworld® member airlines and their affiliates, Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air and/or American Airlines marketed codeshare flights.

Elite-Status Offer Terms and Conditions
This is an exclusive offer only for members who receive this email directly from American Airlines. You have been pre-enrolled for this offer. No registration is required.

AAdvantage Executive Platinum® membership received through this offer is valid through February 28, 2014. To qualify, you must earn 55,000 elite-qualifying miles or points between April 24, 2012, and December 31, 2012. Bonus elite qualifying miles earned through special promotions are excluded. Upon reaching the required mileage threshold, your AAdvantage elite-status membership benefits will take effect immediately. Your new membership credentials will be mailed to you within four to six weeks after qualification. You must re-qualify for AAdvantage elite-status membership annually. For details regarding the standard qualification levels, click here.

Systemwide Upgrade Offer Terms and Conditions
In order to receive eight (8) one-way Systemwide Upgrades, you must earn 30,000 elite-qualifying miles or points between April 24, 2012, and August 31, 2012. If you qualify, eight (8) one-way Systemwide Upgrades will be deposited into your account within two weeks following the end of the qualification period and will be valid for travel through February 28, 2014. Elite-qualifying miles and points are earned for eligible travel on American Airlines, American Eagle, the AmericanConnection carrier, all oneworld member airlines and their affiliates, Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air and/or American Airlines marketed codeshare flights. Free Nights in New York at Starwood Hotels if You Find a Lower Rate on a Competing Website

Some hotel chains like InterContinental Hotels Group have very powerful low rates guarantees. They will give you the night free if you can find a lower rate for the same type of accommodation and terms i.e. refundable vs non-refundable.

Things to remember:

No requests for a free night reward made after the claim form is submitted will be granted.
  • The SPG Member submitting the claim and others in his/her household have not submitted a valid claim during the previous 30 days for which they received a free night as their best rate guarantee reward.  If it is determined by Starwood in its sole discretion that an SPG Member has submitted a valid claim but does not meet this requirement, the SPG Member will be provided with the opportunity to select a different Best Rate Guarantee reward.
  • The free night must be used during the stay that is the subject of the valid claim, must be used by the SPG Member that submits the claim, and is nontransferable.
  • The free night will not constitute an Eligible Charge for purposes of earning Starpoints, but will count towards the SPG Member reaching the Eligible Night and Eligible Stay milestones needed to earn elite membership status in accordance with the SPG Terms (
  • All other nights during the stay that is the subject of the valid claim will be at the Competing Rate.
  • The SPG Member will be responsible for all taxes, gratuities, and any additional resort or guest charges or fees for the free night and the remainder of the stay that is the subject of the valid claim.

Marriott Rewards MegaMiles Promotion – Earn Triple Airline Miles

You can earn triple airline miles for your Marriott family of hotels stays from July 1st to October 31st, 2012 with participating airlines. If you are a points collector you need to change your preference to miles, before you can start earning triple miles.

Thing to keep in mind is that you will probably do better if you just continue to earn points, participate to the close to quarterly MegaBonuses, and then later redeem for Marriott Travel Packages.

Here’s the list of participating airline partners:

Air Berlin
Air Canada (Aeroplan)
Air China
Air France/KLM
Alaska Airlines
British Airways
Cathay Pacific
China Eastern
China Southern

Here are the Terms and conditions of this promotion:

Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Latest Airline Partner Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) latest airline partner. It is always great to have more airlines partnering with Starwood as it is very convenient to transfer Starpoints to airline miles to top up accounts for awards.

Etihad sent an email couple of days ago about this partnership and SPG already has website up for double, triple or 3000 extra miles depending of the upgraded accommodations your book in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

According to the email, you could already transfer Starpoints to Etihad Guest miles, but this is not the case. The airline doesn’t yet appear on the partner list.

Earn Up To 20K Priority Club Bonus Points (1K Per Night) + Online Booking Bonus

This promotion already had an early start for those who liked the Priority Club on their Facebook page. Now, however, the promotion is open for everyone. You can register for promotion at and plugging in an offer code 1340 or by simply clicking this link.

You can earn 1000 bonus Priority Club points per night for up to 20K bonus points during the promotional period from June 1st to September 3rd, 2012. These points are addition to the points you would otherwise earn and can be combined with all the other Priority Club point promotions as long as they are not “conflicting” ones.

According to the promotion this is open for airline miles collectors as well. The maximum number of bonus miles that you can earn is capped at 4000 miles. I would not, however, collect airline miles instead of Priority Club points unless you need some kind of hit for an airline related bonus like the previous and current Air Canada related ones.

Priority Club is also promoting that you will earn bonus 250 Priority Club points per STAY (not night) if you book your stay at any InterContinental Hotels Group family of websites.

Here are the Terms and conditions of this promotion:

Must be a Priority Club® Rewards member and must register member number in advance to participate in this promotion.

1,000 bonus points or 200 bonus miles with participating airlines and partners will be awarded on every qualifying night at InterContinental®, Crowne Plaza®, Hotel Indigo®, Holiday Inn®, Holiday Inn Express®, Express by Holiday Inn, Staybridge Suites® and Candlewood Suites® hotels worldwide between June 1, 2012 and September 3, 2012. Maximum bonus award is 20,000 bonus points or 4,000 bonus miles. Most business and leisure rates are qualifying.
You must be a miles collector with a preferred alliance to collect airline miles. See below for participating airlines. Frequency/partner credits may be issued in currencies other than miles. All airline program terms and conditions apply. For details on airline miles earning structure, click here. For details on points earning structure, click here.
Only one room per member per night at participating hotels will be awarded the applicable bonus. No retroactive bonus points or miles will be awarded for nights prior toregistration. Subject to standard Priority Club Rewards Membership Terms and Conditions.

Starwood Preferred Guest

Starwood launched their much anticipated SPG Nice Choice promotion on May 1st that hasn’t gone down too well. You can read about the initial leakmy ability to confirm that the leaked information was real, and the strategy that you should take. Essentially, this is a double or triple Starpoints promotion that is very weak compared to free night promotions that SPG was running during 2010 and 2011. Note that you need to choose what you would like to earn and when by June 30th, 2012.

SPG Nice Choice Promotion Finally Launched

Starwood seems to be promoting their Sheraton brand hard these days. There are three different promotions for Sheraton stays going on.

Wyndham Rewards

Wyndham has two promotions. One is for North America (US, Canada, and Mexico) and the other one is for rest of the world. In my opinion the rest of the world is better.

Club Carlson 30% off Sale at Selected Country Inns & Suites, Radisson, Park Inn & Park Plaza Hotels

Now you can save 30 % off of Best Available Rates (BAR) at select Country Inns & Suites, Radisson, Park Inn & Park Plaza hotel in the Americas if you book your stay by June 12th, 2012, and stay between June 22nd and September 1, 2012. This offer is not valid on all dates at every hotel, but rather the dates when the offer is available varies a lot. You can use the hotel specific links below, or just use the 30PCTOFF promotional code.

There are number of hotels where this 30% of discount is only available for one night during the period.

When you use these links or input the 30PCTOFF promotional code, you will not see other rates offered by the property. It pays to check the rates without this discount code as well. There are other discount rates such as advance purchase rate and AAA rate that can be close to this 30% off rate.

Club Carlson is running very lucrative promotions for their Radisson / Radisson Blu, Country Inns & Suites, and Park Inn properties. You can get 50000 point for a stay at Radisson, 44000 points for Country Inns & Suites, and 44000 for Park Inn. You can participate to all these three promotion and get more than 150K Club Carlson points including regular points based on the revenue and the online booking bonuses.

You can read more about the various status levels at the Club Carlson program and the status match opportunities they offer.

Country Inns & Suites

The 30% off discount came off nicely from their Panama property.

The Mexico City property offered advance purchase rates that were close to the 30% off discount.

Park Inn

The discount worked perfectly for the one Park Inn property that Club Carlson has in Mexico. The rate was discounted by 30% as the offer promises.

Park Plaza

This was really a complete failure. The discount is available only on one day during the promotional period per the terms, but the rate is not available even on that single date. Why bother even participating?

Here are participating Country Inns & Suites locations:

United Airlines Terminates Codeshare & Frequent Flyer Partnership with Qatar Airways

First United terminated the partnership they had with Emirates, then Virgin Atlantic was gone earlier this year, and now the ability to earn and redeem on Qatar Airways will end on 14th of September, 2012.

I have flown with the Qatar Airways quite a lot recently, and their service in business class is excellent. I am not a huge fan of the Doha airport, but the ground experience should get a lot better early next year, when the new airport opens.

It is sad to see more United partners to go. Qatar Airways has offered very good connections to number of destinations in Middle East/Indian Subcontinent that are borderline impossible to get to using other partners.

There are no notes on the regarding this change, but it should get updated sometime in the next week.
