You can get Starwood Preferred Guest Gold status for having just one stay at participating property in the Asia Pacific region. This offer is targeted to World MasterCard holders, but anyone can register using the link. This offer that has been going on for a while is expiring on March 31, 2013. You can access the Starwood’s web page for this offer here.
You need to sign up or register your existing account to this promotion using the link above. The terms and conditions state that you would need to settle your hotel folio using a World MasterCard, but I doubt that the actual credit card information, besides what type of card was used to settle the folio, is transferred to SPG.
It is somewhat difficult to get super excited about any of the hotel promotions that the hotel chains are having right now. I guess that the business must be too good? Here’s my pick of top five:
1. Hyatt Gold Passport’s More Possibilities promotion for 3000 bonus points for every three nights
Last year, I wrote about the IKEA budget design hotels that were going to pop up all over Europe. Now, Marriott has apparently teamed up with IKEA’s real estate arm and will launch these under new budget conscious MOXY Hotels brand in Europe.
Marriott is scheduled to open first MOXY hotel in Milan sometime in early 2014. London, Berlin and Frankfurt should follow shortly thereafter. These hotels have 150 to 300 rooms each. You will earn Marriott Rewards points for staying at MOXY Hotels.
Starwood changed the award categories of around 20% of its hotels yesterday (mostly up). When the list of originally published, there was a note that further changes may take place before March 5, 2013. You can read my original post about this change here and the reminder here.
Now, Starwood has made the above announcement on FlyerTalk. Although there are only handful of changes, upping Royal Orchid Sheraton from category 2 to category 3 property has huge impact in number of points required for an award night.
There was an interesting opinion pages piece on the New York Times yesterday “Frequent Fliers, Prepare to Pay More” about airlines goal of offering customized airfares for fliers that LoyaltyLobby reader alerted me. This article is interesting and worth reading. You can access it here.
The goal for the airlines is to recognize the individual traveler before the choice of prizes and possible packages are offered. They will try to implement this via online travel agencies like Expedia etc. too.
Virgin America and Singapore Airlines are now frequent flier partners as well. You can both earn and burn award miles on each others flights. There is more information about this partnership on Virgin America’s website here and Singapore Airlines website here.
