Get 2000 Le Club Accorhotels Points for Matching Properties with Cities

Le Club Accorhotels has an interesting “game” on their Facebook page. You can get 500 points per week for the next four weeks by successfully matching 10 hotels with cities on the world map. You can access the Facebook page here.

Edit: This post has been updated with correct link.

le-club-accorhotels-discovery-tour

You don’t have to Like Le Club Accorhotels on Facebook, but you do need to have your account number and email address on hand.

le-club-accorhotels-discovery-tour-info

Then you just need to drag the hotels to correct locations on the world map. If you don’t know, you can just use Google search to get them right.

Last weekend, I wrote about a complimentary Langham 1865 Gateway membership for Visa Signature cardholders. Reader of my blog alerted me about an offer for Voyager status for Visa Infinite cardholders.

langham-1865-voyager

You can get a complimentary Langham 1865 Voyager membership for being a Visa Infinite cardholder. This offer is valid until December 31, 2012. You can sign up for this offer here.

langham-1865-voyager-card

The 1865 Voyager is a top level status. It comes with 6PM check out, complimentary internet access, complimentary upgrades, and a suite upgrade voucher. You only need two stays per year to renew at this level. You can read more about various Langham membership levels here. There is higher Destiny level status but it is by invitation only.

langham-1865-voyager-benefits

Note that you only need the first six digits of the Visa Infinite card to sign up for this offer. You can use Google Image search and search for Visa Infinite. It is very easy to find the correct first six digits to take advantage of this offer.

Conclusion

If you have a Langham hotel stay coming up, it makes sense to sign up for this offer to take advantage of benefits associated with the 1865 Voyager status.

Here are the terms and conditions associated with this offer:

Visa Infinite cardholders will need to register from 1 February 2012 to 31 December 2012, in the designated website to enrol for the membership.
Once enrolled within the promotional period, the membership is valid for 1 year (12-month).
Subsequent to the enrollment, membership will be renewed automatically when the eligible Voyager member stays at any of the affiliate hotels at least twice annually.
Offer cannot be redeemed for cash.
1865 membership is not transferrable.
In the event of a dispute, the joint decision of Langham Hotels International and Visa shall be final.
The offers are subject to the terms and conditions of Langham Hospitality Group and Visa. Langham Hospitality Group and Visa reserve the right to amend, vary or terminate any such terms and conditions without prior notice.
All other standard terms and conditions of 1865 apply to above privileges. Details refer to http://1865.langhamhotels.com.

Hyatt October Edition of the 48 Hour Sale – C48OCT

Hyatt is having their monthly 48 hour sale where you can save 15% to 30% off of best available rates (BAR). Sometimes you can save quite a bit of money and sometimes you cannot. These rates are valid at select US, Canada, and Caribbean hotels for stays between October 30 and January 31, 2013. The promotional dates for individual properties may vary. You need to book this offer by 11:59PM CDT on October 17, 2012.

hyatt-48-hour-sale-october

Sometimes it is actually better to book an AAA rate that might include some extras like a complimentary breakfast. AAA rates are also normally not prepaid and cancellable.

Conclusion

I would only book this rate if it is significantly cheaper than refundable rates as plans often change. This sale is a monthly one from Hyatt and these “sale” rates are often not that great. Have a look at your upcoming Hyatt reservations to see if there are opportunities to save.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

Offer valid for bookings only between 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday October 16th and 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday October 17th Central Daylight Time, for travel between Wednesday October 31, 2012 and Sunday January 27, 2013 at participating Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Park Hyatt and Andaz properties in the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean. Reservations are subject to availability and must be made in advance. Full non-refundable prepayment required at time of booking. Offer is for a limited time only. Simply request offer code C48OCT when you book your reservation and pay the 48 Hour Sale rate. Discount is off the Hyatt Daily Rate for the room type requested at time of booking. Rate is per room, per night, excluding service charges, taxes and other incidental expenses. Rate is based on double occupancy. Additional guests may be subject to additional hotel charges. Additional charges apply to room-type upgrades. A limited number of rooms are allocated to this promotion. Full, non-refundable, Prepayment due at time of reservation. No changes, amendments or cancellations allowed. Changing to a different property is considered a cancel and re-book, and is non-refundable. Canceled reservations and no shows will forfeit the full prepayment. Promotional blackout periods may apply due to seasonal periods or special events, and normal arrival/departure restrictions apply, including, but not limited to, minimum length of stay and day of week restrictions. Offer may not be combined with other offers or discounts. Hyatt reserves the right to alter or withdraw this program at any time without notice. United Airlines Mileage Plus – Buy Miles People Power Offer

United seems to be experimenting with a new offer for trying to sell some miles. This time the bonus amount is dependent how many people are buying or sharing miles. The price under this offer if calculated at the maximum 60% bonus is 2.35 cents per mile. This offer is valid until October 19 11:59 PM CDT. You can access this offer here.

united-mileage-plus-buy-miles-october

The good thing about this specific promotion is that you could buy up to the yearly maximum of 100K miles and if enough people buy/share get the 60% bonus in top of that.

united-mileage-plus-buy-miles-october-transaction-count

Conclusion

This is not a terrific offer. If you need some United miles for international business or first class redemption, it can make sense to buy. The current offer from US Airways for buying Dividend Miles is far better.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

  • To take advantage of this offer, you must use the order links on this page.
  • Promotional offer valid until 11:59 p.m. CDT on October 19, 2012
  • For a limited time, get a minimum of 30% bonus award miles and a maximum of 60% bonus award miles when you purchase miles via the above links
  • Personal Miles or Give Miles cost $35 per 1,000 miles plus a 7.5% excise tax
  • 5,000 mile minimum purchase required and then miles are available in increments of 1,000
  • Purchase up to 100,000 MileagePlus Personal miles or Give Miles per account per calendar year
  • For Give miles transactions, both purchased miles and bonus miles will post to the recipients MileagePlus account
  • Credit card will be billed immediately for purchase
  • Program fees and mileage rates subject to change
  • Initial purchased base award miles post to MileagePlus account (up to 48 hours from when purchase is made) and bonus miles post up to 7 days after promotion ends.
  • Personal Miles and Give Miles are non-refundable
  • These miles can only be used for awards and do not count toward Premier® status
  • If you have questions or concerns about this offer, please email custserv@ualmiles.com for assistance

Finnair & Air Berlin Award Inventory Now Available on AA.com

American Airlines has slowly expanded the number of airlines that are bookable on AA.com. Finnair and Air Berlin just joined Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Hawaiian, and Qantas that were introduced earlier this year.

american-airlines-finnair-air-berlin

This makes booking awards online that connect to American or Qantas flights easier if you try to avoid British Airways metal due to very high fuel surcharges.

Here’s a simple search from Helsinki to Honolulu. The engine was able to find the business class availability by combining Finnair, Air Berlin, and American Airlines.

american-airlines-ab-ay-hel-hnl

If you can avoid London Heathrow and British Airways, you can keep the taxes at rather reasonable level.

american-airlines-ab-ay-hel-hnl-prices

Conclusion

It is very good that American makes more of their partners bookable online as United has already done. American still has more than 15 partners that they could implement to their online award searches. I hope that they would speed up the process.

Trouble Brewing for Marriott over Management of the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami Beach

The owner of Eden Roc hotel attempted to take over the hotel on October 14 in a hostile manner according to the Bloomberg.

marriott-eden-rock-counter-sues

The owner of the hotel sued Marriott back in April for mismanaging the property. The hostile takeover didn’t go to the plan and Marriott is still managing the hotel and have counter sued the owner.

marriott-eden-rock

Obviously the owner has a final say at some point and I wouldn’t be surprised if this hotel would disappear from Marriott’s portfolio sooner rather than later.

Conclusion

I have never considered Marriott to be a very successful company when it comes to desirable lifestyle brands. They are very good at managing your cookie cutter business hotels by providing uniform service.

Their recent launch of the Edition brand has not gone to the plan. The owner of Waikiki Edition took over the hotel on a manner in which the Eden Roc owner failed back in August 2011.

Hertz Delta SkyMiles Offers: 250 MQM’s + Bonus Miles per 3 Day Rental OR 2000 Bonus Miles for Rental of 5 Days+

There are two different car rental offers from Hertz that earn you bonus miles + MQM’s or just bonus miles.

250 MQM’s + 250 Bonus Miles

hertz-delta-skymiles-mqm-offer

You can now earn 250 Delta Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQM’s), 250 bonus SkyMiles, and 100 miles (200 for Medallion members) when you rent from Hertz Airport locations in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico between now and November 30, 2012. You can access this offer here.

hertz-delta-skymiles-mqm-offer-details

You need to use discount code CDP# 165385 and PC 175512 to be eligible for this offer.

Up To 2000 Bonus Miles

hertz-delta-skymiles-bonus-miles-offer

Hertz has different offer for earning bonus SkyMiles without MQM’s. You can earn up to 2000 bonus miles on rentals of 5 days of longer at Hertz airport locations in United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom for reservations that are made by November 20, 2012 and picked up by January 31, 2013. You can access this offer here.

hertz-delta-skymiles-bonus-miles-offer-details

The bonus miles are dependent of the number of days that you earn. There is a separate offer for other locations for just double miles.

hertz-delta-skymiles-bonus-miles-offer-details-codes

Conclusion

First you really need to check how much the rental would be using other discount codes. Sometimes rates using these airlines related offers are quite frankly inflated, although they do promise a set discount that doesn’t seem to always materialize.

If you need some extra MQM’s for Delta SkyMiles status, the first offer could be worthwhile doing. The second offer is better for redeemable bonus miles.

Here are the terms and conditions of the 250 MQM offer:

Advance reservation required.  This offer is valid at participating airport locations in the US, PR, MX & CA; CDP 165385 and PC 175512 must be included in the reservation. Air France-KLM Flying Blue Promo Awards (50% Discount) Are Out For November – December 2012

Air France and KLM’s Flying Blue program releases a list of promotional destinations every couple of months that are redeemable for half the usual number of miles. They just announced the latest list of destinations that are bookable from October 30, 2012. You can access them here.

flying-blue-promo-awards-logo-october

Thing to note is that you can book these also as one way.  These are not only for originating from Europe as all the destinations are valid for both directions.  Awards allow the origin/destination in Europe to be in zones 1, 2, and 3, basically meaning that these awards are valid from/to anywhere in Europe.

Note that zone 3 includes countries in North Africa + Israel:

Europe 1
Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg

Europe 2
Austria, Balearic Islands ,Finland, Denmark, Italy, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Spain , Sweden

Europe 3
Albania, Algeria, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia,Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Libya, Lithuania, Latvia, Macedonia, Moldova, Morocco, Poland, Romania, West Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tunisia, , Turkey, Ukraine.

flying-blue-promo-africa-middle-east-october-af

flying-blue-promo-asia-pacific-logo

flying-blue-promo-asia-pacific-october-af-kl

Thing to remember is that Flying Blue charges rather hefty taxes and fees for award tickets. The fees are mainly fuel surcharges (YQ) that they collect. As a result, it rarely makes sense to redeem for an economy class ticket. Also, there are no changes or cancellations of any kind allowed on promo tickets. You either use it or lose it.

You can sign up for the Flying Blue account and have a look at the availability. I would suggest first trying to find availability for the long haul flights and work the connecting fights, if needed, separately.

Conclusion

These promo awards can make lot of sense if you have Flying Blue miles in your account and are looking for an oneway or business class award. The fuel surcharges are rather high on the long-haul awards.

Here are the terms and conditions of these promo awards:

  • Reservations must be made exclusively on www.airfrance.com or www.klm.com (except for bookings for children, infants and minors, who are not authorised to book an award on the website).
  • In the event that a technical problem occurs when reserving the promotional fare or if the reservation cannot be finalised, the Flying Blue member must log on to the site and repeat the procedure.
  • This award ticket may only be used on connecting flights into or out of the Europe 1, Europe 2 and Europe 3 zones if the connections are to long-haul flights.
For European flight promotions, connecting flights within Europe are not included.
  • These promotional Promo Award@ may not be modified, cancelled or refunded.
  • Promo Award@ are available for one-way tickets and round trips.
  • Discounts (SkyTeam scale applicable) apply to the award ticket price only (SkyTeam scale is valid). Applicable taxes and fees are paid by the Flying Blue member.
  • Flex Award are not included in the Promo Award@ offer.
  • Business Elite and Economy Elite bookings are available exclusively to Flying Blue Elite members (Platinum, Gold and Silver). These Elite travel classes provide extra award seats on routes to the United States, the Caribbean and Indian Ocean, Africa and Asia.

Sofitel Private Sale 40% off

Accor loves these private sales. Once you have sign up for the Le Club Accorhotels (and hopefully done the instant Platinum status as well) you will receive an email once a month regarding their latest sales. You can access this exclusive sale here.

sofitel-private-sale-40-off

This offer is valid for bookings made between October 15 and October 21 for stays from December 1 to March 31, 2013.  These rates are prepaid and non-refundable/cancelable.

Sometimes these sales rates are the lowest, but sometimes they are not. Often some Red Hot Deals can beat these sales rates by wide margin. I don’t normally like rates that needs to be booked months in advance and are prepaid because my plans often change at very last minute. These can be very good for those that can plan in advance and don’t need flexibility.

Conclusion

Don’t book a prepaid rate if you need flexibility. Sometimes there might be other sales rates that can beat these private sales.

Here are the terms and conditions of this rate promotion:

Terms and Conditions (blackout dates as well as other restrictions may apply: please read the following). Guests booking Sofitel Exclusive Sales confirm they have read and accept the following conditions:

  • Offer is subject to availability at participating hotels and is valid for bookings made on http://www.sofitel.com/gb/exclusive-sales/index.shtml between for 15/10/2012 and 21/10/2012 for Sofitel newsletter subscribers, for stays between 01/12/2012 and 31/03/2013 inclusive.
  • The 40% reduction per night is calculated on the basis of the Premium rate (or the Best Flexible Rate for hotels that do not have the Premium rate). This offer is for accommodation only. The offer is for physical persons only and is limited to 7 rooms per booking.
  • The offer does not apply for groups (more than 7 rooms) The offer cannot be combined with any other special offers or advantages.
  • The pre-payment by credit card of the full amount of the stay will be debited at the time of reservation. The amount pre-paid is not reimbursable. Reservations can not be modified, canceled or exchanged.

This time the offer is valid at select cities in Europe that are only 8000 points per night until November 30, 2012. There is no official list of participating countries or hotels. AviancaTaca to Use Avianca Name in 2013

AviancaTaca, the new Star Alliance member based in South America, is to start using the Avianca name across all its subsidiaries early next year. They send me an announcement about this change in Spanish of course.

aviancataca-annoucement

Conclusion

This is a welcomed change. It has been somewhat confusing with Avianca, Taca, LACSA and their other subsidiaries. They still have the former OceanAir in Brazil that was rebranded as Avianca Brazil that is not part of the Star Alliance.
