Delta is going to make a public announcement later today about the major changes coming to it’s SkyMiles program starting on January 1, 2015.

CNN has a new feature up on CNN.com for 10 best airlines for business class. It is not a surprise that there are zero airlines from the Americas on the list, but all of the big three Gulf carriers are.

Note that this offer is from 2013. I can confirm, however, that it is still valid if you have not done it previously.

Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) doesn’t offers straight status matches to Platinum, but rather has a “Platinum Challenge” that requires 18 paid nights during 90-day window. No status with competitor required.

The status challenge is applicable for those that haven’t had Platinum status with SPG in the past 5 years.

US Airways Dividend Miles Oneworld Alliance Status Mapping

US Airways is exiting Star Alliance on March 30, 2014, and joining the Oneworld Alliance as an affiliate on the following day March 31. Dividend Miles Preferred members will receive Oneworld Alliance Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald benefits starting on March 31.

The airline has now sent emails to Preferred members telling their Oneworld Alliance status and there are no surprises.

Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles 50% Bonus Miles & 25% Off Awards For Select Cities (March 2014)

Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles has two offers for flights taken in March 2014. You can earn 50% bonus on award miles on select domestic and international flights & Turkish has most of the same cities at 25% off using miles.

Note that the terms and conditions state that the bonus miles offer is not valid on “promotional” fares, but those fares are not identified.

Starwood Allows Properties Classify Single-Rooms As Standard For Award Redemption Purposes

There is a long thread on FlyerTalk (access here) about a recent development with some Starwood properties that have previously allowed standard awards to be booked for double occupancy.

Now, Hotel Pulitzer and Hotel Des Indes, both in Netherlands, have reclassified their standard room for award purposes to be a single one with a queen bed, however. These can be only booked for one person.

Hilton HHonors has several public fast track offers for Gold status that require 4 stays within 90 days of signing up for the offer. These don’t require you to have any prior status with Hilton or any other hotel chain. You can read more about one of the offers (MVP) here.

If you work for a large corporation that has relationship with Hilton, it doesn’t hurt to ask your travel department about instant Gold or Diamond offers that Hilton may have extended to your employer.

Air France-KLM Invests $100 Million To GOL (Destined To SkyTeam?)

There was an interesting airline related news piece this past week. Air France-KLM has decided to invest $100 million to GOL Linhas Aereas, Sao Paulo based airline.

Delta Air Lines already owns 6% of the airline after investing into it and SkyMiles members can earn and use miles on GOL flights.

Expedia Elite Plus Status (On The Cheap)

Expedia has its own rewards program that has been greatly devalued over the years to the point that I could almost care less. I do, however, like using Expedia for airline ticketing (even without the rewards).

If problems arise, it is very difficult to get proper customer service from Expedia’s Tier 1 and 2 agents (based in India). They are very nice, but everything takes a very long time and I have not been fully convinced that they actually know a lot or would be empowered to do much.
